What's your movement mood?

We make out that moving our bodies is difficult:

  • No time

  • Can't do that

  • Foot won't go there

  • Do what with the arms?!

  • Breathe in, fold forward, breathe out, bend knees

  • Roll out the mat, put on the kit

  • But, it's raining

Forget about being ‘good’ for a moment and throw getting it ‘right’ to one side.

Take a few minutes to check-in with yourself and explore some low, moderate, and high energy movements.

Why? Because getting moving feels easiest when it matches our mood.

If you're feeling super energetic, it requires SO MUCH EFFORT to stay still.

If you're feeling really low, it requires SO MUCH EFFORT just to begin.

What if you could allow yourself a small amount of time to do your own thing?

Explore your ‘movement mood’

Becci slowly walks around the yoga room looking very unenthusiastic about doing anything

1. Cannot be armholed

Becci stands and kicks her legs from side to side without putting any effort in

2. I’m up now, so may as well

Becci moves from side to side adding in a kick and some movement with her arms.

3. Trying not to enjoy myself

Becci kicks and jumps from side-to-side in an energetic way

4. Peak Jane Fonda

Perhaps you could let that joyful toddler of a body bounce around? Or allow that grumpy teenager of a body to protest?

Try moving around your space in a way that matches your energy level and mood. No pretending it's any other way than it is:

  • Stomp

  • Punch the air

  • Drag your heels

  • Tip toe

  • Go slow

  • Bounce

  • Slump

  • March on the spot

Feel the same? Feel different? Take it from there.

Maybe today's not the day after all. Maybe something shifts.

Get up now and walk around for a bit and then sit back down, or go out for a run.

Who cares? It's your body. It's all for you anyway.
